Feb 4th - Devonport/ Flowery Gully
After a very easy and smooth nights sail we woke up to the announcement that everyone’s travel permits into Tasmania had been cancelled and we all had to re-apply for new ones. Apparently there had been a new case of Covid in Melbourne, with someone working for the Australian open Tennis comp, and we had to advise health officials if we’d been in the ‘hot’ zones before leaving home.
A pleasant hours drive from Devonport and we arrived at Flowery Gully. This is where a mate of mine, Frank, from my scouting days, lives (although he is trying to sell it). What a place, 65 acres, a house on the hill overlooking a fantastic trout lake, and surrounded by trees. It’s just beautiful! My photos are not going to do the place justice so HERE is the link to the advertising blurb that Franks using with some great aerial shots.
Out fishing (spinning) with Frank before lunch and I caught a very nice half dozen brown trout, all between 12 & 18 inches long. What a lovely way to spend a morning.
After lunch we had a bit of golf practice on the local 1 hole par 3! Not quite St Andrews but a bit of fun anyway. The tee we set up was on the house flat and we tried to drive the 210 yard distance to the flag (not the easiest with ‘floater’ type balls!). We even had a ‘short course’ game where we tried to hit the boats tied up at the jetty with a 7 iron. In reality I won, but when I landed a ball on the blue boat the rules changed to “it was meant to be the yellow boat!” 😊
After the sun began to set off to the lake for more fishing. Another half dozen on the spinner to add to my total plus 1 for JEM. This really is fun and we might just have to come back for another visit.
